"Duke" - Alkyd on Canvas, 10"x10" A Gift for David & Melissa O'Grady
I painted Duke as a personal challenge. My aim was to make a painting
with a high degree of realism using Alkyd paint.
Untitled Abstract - Acrylic on Canvas, 36"x36" for David & Melissa O'Grady
The inspiration for this painting was a 1" square of color cut
from experiments with pastel and paint on paper. This is one of a group of images that I developed using my mind's eye, that tendency to see images where none exist, like we all do lying on our backs in the grass staring at the clouds. Everyone "projects" a different image into it.
"Beyond the Blue Horizon - An Aerial View" - Acrylic/Canvas, 30"x30" Painted for a NSCAD Alumni Fundraiser.
Currently in the collection of Ralston & Charlene MacDonnell
The task: Using a 1" square of crayon and pastel develop a painting based on seeing a landscape at the horizon from an aerial view. Another projection of my imagination. Lots of work with color and tone and transparency.
"Callas" - Acrylic on Canvas, 18"x34" Commissioned as a wedding gift for John & Aleisha
The task: compose a painting based on the Calla lilies in Aleijsha's bridal bouquet. I composed the painting in Photoshop
using multiple shots of a single flower.
The challenge: find a composition that highlighted the form and the variety of the Calla lily using a single flower, and then balance shape and color, tone and light.
