The challenge: balance the perspective and the light conditions between the foreground and background images. Add a camp fire to the foreground. |

"Whitewash" - Acrylic on Canvas, 10"x34" Commissioned by Andree MacKay for John Jennings for Christmas. The task: Using the photo provided compose and paint a portrait of John kayaking. The challenge: producing a likeness on a small scale, tackling water surfaces, transparency, and foam, in an effort to heighten the believability and the action of the water. |

"Morning at the Narrows" - Acrylic on Canvas,
24"x42" Commissioned by Greg King & Donna King- to commemmorate the 90th Anniversary of the Halifax Explosion. The task: Create an original painting based on the events of the Halifax Explosion. The challenge: Research, research, research. The idea for this painting came to me only after spending significant time with historical materials. It was a significant challenge to compose, from multiple photos, maps, drawings, and historical references, balancing color, light & tone. |
